Maptoolkit.org Alternatives

Free Vector Maps and Tile Server

Maptoolkit.org is a free, production-grade vector basemap for the open web - no API key, no sign-up, no request limits. It's built on OpenStreetMap data and served as standard MapLibre style URLs under the Maptoolkit Community License, with outdoor-specific styles (Hiking, Cycling, Winter), global hillshading, contour lines, water depths and 3D terrain out of the box. The same tiles power commercial deployments at Deutsche Bahn, Red Bull Media House and the Austrian and German National Tourism Offices.

It isn't the only free option, though. This page lines up Maptoolkit.org against the other free, OSM-based vector basemap projects for MapLibre. Click the detail pages to compare the cartography.

Community vs. Enterprise

Maptoolkit Enterprise License

All the alternatives above - including Maptoolkit.org's own Community License - are free, best-effort tile services. None of them come with an SLA, dedicated support, self-hosting on your own infrastructure, or APIs beyond vector tiles.

The Maptoolkit Enterprise License is the sister product built for exactly that: larger projects, dedicated infrastructure, an SLA, your own geodata via Maptoolkit Connectors, and access to the full API suite - routing, geocoding, static maps, elevation and more - on top of the same cartography.
